Why Our Nation should Rejoice Every Time a Little Girl is Born?

I Will Protect Her by Supriya Wadgaonkar, Acrylic on Canvas, 48” x 36”

Listen to me O daughters of India

Listen to my voice
on the day I was born I was despised
there was no applause for my first step
my first word brought no smile
I was thrown out into the open field
cast away from life
But look at me now
O daughters of India
Listen to my voice
tall trees bend when I pass by
the strong earth trembles when I dance
and at the sound of my voice clouds gather
to thunder out my song
For I am honored for my courage
for my beauty
for my strength
For I lived
though there was no life given
And now I
am a giver of life
Listen to me O daughters of India
Listen to my voice
