The Charter of the United Nations reaffirms faith in fundamental human rights, in the dignity and worth of human person and in the equal rights of men and women.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights affirms the principle of the inadmissibility of discrimination and proclaims that all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights and that everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedom set forth therein, including the fundamental right to life, without the distinction of any kind, including distinction based on sex
the Constitution of India guarantees the rights and freedoms of men and women equally without any barrier, bias, or discrimination and the same are threatened by the illegal and damaging practice of gender biased sex selection and other forms of violence against women
Life is a gift from God to be received, celebrated, and lived out in its fullness.

I hereby take a solemn pledge today that I shall act in all possible ways individually and collectively to eliminate gender biased sex selection and other forms of violence that threatens the birth and survival of the girl child and to work towards changing mindsets which perpetuate such practices. I will do my best to ensure that girls are born, loved and nurtured and grow up to achieve their God given potential and become empowered citizens of our country. And as a practical expression of my commitment:

  • I will not give or take dowry, or ask anybody to do so.
  • I will not do a sex-determination test, or pressure anybody to do so.
  • I will not tolerate violence on girls and women in any form, whether physical, sexual or emotional.
  • I will value, respect, and nurture the lives of girls and women in my home, my workplace, and in public.
